How Long Does It Take To Pass A Kidney Stone?

Importance of Kidneys

Kidneys are a vital organ of your body and they are present in pair on opposite sides of yours spine. They are shaped like beans. Kidneys filter our body by removing extra water, excess salts and various other unwanted toxins from blood and eliminate them in the form of urine. They help in keeping everything in balance in our body. Other purpose of kidney includes:

  • keeping the red blood cells in check: sometime it happens that we somehow are not inhaling the amount of oxygen optimized for formation of red blood cells or if we are but for any reason kidneys aren’t getting enough then there is a protocol that kicks in causing kidney to form a hormone called erythropoietin which causes bone marrow to make more red blood cells to make up for the oxygen.
  • Regulating acid level and water levels: kidneys are reactive to the amount of water in our body. To prevent dehydration kidneys adjust their urine forming ability in accordance to amount of water intake. Digestion also yields certain acids being produced in our body and it is kidney’s duty to keep those acids in check for your body to function properly.
  • Maintaining a certain blood pressure: to make blood flowing towards kidney to befiltered requires a specific blood pressure level. Kidneys release a specific protein to increase blood pressure if it drops down.
